With a Projected $30 billion 2026 Revenue, Dangote Refineries on Course to Become First African Fortune 500 Company

Dangote Refineries Plc has announced a revenue of $22.5 billion for the period ended third quarter September 2026 (third quarter) to propel it further towards a listing among Fortune 500 companies, a development which could happen by the time the list is published in 2028.
At the 2026 Q3 revenue, annualized turnover for full year 2026 is projected at around $30 billion, which would be around 10% higher than $33.2 billion, the threshold for the 2026 Fortune 500 list.
No African privately-owned company generates enough revenue to be included in the Fortune 500 list. The World Fortune 500 list is published by Fortune magazine, a United States company. The list highlights the top 500 companies in the world by revenue.
The 2026 list shows Amazon (an American retailer) Walmart (also an American retailer) and State Grid (a Chinese electricity company) as the top three biggest companies with revenue of $716 billion, $713 billion and $553 billion respectively.
Dangote Refineries’ presence on the Fortune 500 list will cement the status of Aliko Dangote as the foremost industrialist on the continent as the name “Dangote” would become a brand on the Forbes Billionaires list and the Fortune 500 list.
Over the last one and a half decades, Dangote, whose fortunes have largely been tied to dominant presence in the Nigeria’s cement and sugar manufacturing sectors, has consistently been ranked as the richest African in recorded history. His fortune surged from around $28 billion before the commencement of the refineries’ operations to over an estimated $50 billion presently, to solidify his long standing as the richest African by a wide margin.
With the current revenue trajectory of Dangote Refinery, the proposed secondary listing of Dangote Sugar on the London Stock Exchange, the proposed listing of Dangote Fertilizer and the expansion of the refinery capacity to about 1.5 million barrels per day from the present 750,000 barrels per day, Dangote is expected to hit a net-worth of over $100 billion by 2030 to close in on his good friend, Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, who is at number 18 with a net-worth of $108 billion.
Dangote Refineries Q3 revenue was $144% higher than the $9.2 billion generated in the same period in 2025, with net profit surging to $4.7 billion, almost 400% of the total assets of Sterling Bank.
